Why
do I need to attend training?
In every work situation,
people need specific knowledge and skill, and the field of early care and education
is no different. Caring for children in
group settings requires a great deal of knowledge about child development;
appropriate practices to support children’s health, safety, and learning; working
with families; and business practices. It’s
simply a fact that the more you know, the better care you will be able to
provide to children and families. There
is always more to learn about the field of early care and education. Ongoing training and education support
continuous improvement and help providers develop and expand their skills and
knowledge.
How much training do I need to attend?
Training needs vary from
person to person, and change throughout a person’s career. The hours, topics, and type of training you
select depend on your personal and professional goals, as well as your current
needs. For help in defining your goals
and identifying the training and educational options available to help you
reach your goals, contact your CCR&R Professional Development Coordinator.
How do I find training?
To find a list of all the
CCR&R training currently available, simply click on the “Find and Register for
Training” link on the website training page. You’ll be able to search the online training calendar for all types of training
opportunities including online self-paced courses, distance courses, face-to-face
sessions, conferences, and other special events. You can even register online if you
wish. If you prefer to receive a printed
training calendar, call your regional CCR&R Training Office.
Do I need to set up
an online account?
You do not need to set up an
online account to view the training calendar. However, you will need an account to register for a course and to
maintain a record of the training you have taken. Your account allows you to register for
courses, receive real-time updates about courses for which you’ve registered,
pay online, complete coursework online, maintain your personal information, and
print your own certificates and transcript.
Can I register for CCR&R courses without setting up an account?
You cannot register for
CCR&R courses – online or face-to-face – without having an account. The first time you register for a course with
CCR&R, an account will be started for you. If you register online, you will be prompted to set up your account. If you submit a paper registration, CCR&R
will set up a basic account in your name.
Why does CCR&R
charge for training courses?
CCR&R has many costs
associated with developing and delivering quality training across the state,
including curriculum purchases or development, trainer fees, location and
equipment rental, travel costs, handouts and materials, software and computer
maintenance, phone service, printing, postage, staffing and so on. While the ND Department of Human Services
contracts CCR&R to deliver training, DHS does not cover all the many
costs. DHS recognizes that the cost of
training is shared between the state and the training consumer. Most professions require continuing
education, often paid for by the consumer. Like other professions, a quality child care workforce requires
specialized and ongoing education, commonly referred to as professional
development. CCR&R works hard to
maintain affordable quality training and we feel we bring excellent value to
providers at a very reasonable cost.
Is the cost of training tax deductible?
Yes! The cost of training is an allowable business
deduction. When you register online, you
will receive a confirmation of your payment that can be used to document your
expense when you file your annual taxes. For more information about business processes and deductible expenses,
CCR&R
Business
Center.
How
do I register for a course?
You can register for
CCR&R courses in two different ways: online or with a paper registration
form. To register online, log into the
CCR&R Training Participant’s Portal, open you personal record, select the
courses you wish to register for, and pay with a credit or debit card. Online registrations are granted priority
meaning that your name is instantly placed on the course list and you will
receive an email confirming your registration.
You can also fill out a paper
registration form. Registration forms
can be printed from the www.ndchildcare.org website. Fill out the form with your personal
information and selected courses, and mail it to CCR&R along with
payment. Registrations received by mail
are entered into courses as space allows.
Are my online credit and debit card transactions secure?
CCR&R uses a secure
transaction service called Authorize.net to process all credit and debit
payments. This service is as secure as
possible and CCR&R takes other steps to protect your information from
unauthorized use on our computer database.
What if I don’t have a credit or debit card, or I prefer not to pay
online?
If you prefer to pay for a course
using a personal check or Money Order, you can print a registration form at www.ndchildcare.org,
fill out your personal and selected course information, and mail the form along
with payment to your regional CCR&R Training office. Keep in mind that only online credit and
debit card payments receive priority registration. Mailed registrations are entered into courses
as space allows and are not guaranteed enrollment in the course.
How do I see the courses for which I’m registered?
With CCR&R’s online
training system, you can see your courses at any time. Simply log in to the CCR&R Training
Participant’s Portal, click on the “My Training” tab at the top of the page,
and view a list of the courses for which you are registered.
What software do I need to use the CCR&R Training Online portals?
To search for courses, and to
register and pay online you may use any computer with a current Windows or
Macintosh operating system, and internet access (dial-up, DSL, and broadband
are all acceptable). It is very helpful
to have a personal email address as well, so that CCR&R can keep you
up-to-date about courses you’ve registered to attend.
You may use current versions
of any of the following web browsers: Internet Explorer, Netscape, AOL, Yahoo, and Mozilla/Firefox.
To complete courses online,
you will need to have the computer capability listed above. In addition, you will need a current version
of Adobe Reader, which can be obtained free of charge at www.adobe.com,
and download “Free Adobe Reader.”
To complete online
instructor-led courses you will need the computer ability listed above
including Adobe Reader and an email address. You will also need Java for chat room discussions, which is available
for download at www.java.com
How do I cancel my registration for a course?
Online Instructor-led and Direct Courses
(face-to-face, conferences, seminars): If you have registered and paid for online
instructor-led or direct courses and wish to cancel your registration, you may
do so up until one week prior to the training start date by calling your
regional CCR&R Training office.
Online
and Distance Self-Study Courses: Because
online and distance self-study classes are always available and allow
registrants up to 12 months to complete a course, no cancellations are accepted
and no refunds are given if the registrant does not attend or complete the course.
Under what circumstances will CCR&R cancel a course?
Online
and Distance Self-Study Courses: Online and
distance self-study courses will never be cancelled because of low registration,
instructor illness, or bad weather. These courses are open for registration on an ongoing basis, and are
accessible at any time and from any where with internet access.
Online Instructor-Led and
Direct Courses (face-to-face; conferences; seminars): Direct and online
instructor-led courses may be cancelled due to factors such as low
registrations, instructor illness, facility conflicts, or bad weather.
- Low registration: ND CCR&R will cancel any online instructor-led
and direct training course with fewer than 10 participants registered one
week prior to the training start date.
- Bad weather,
instructor illness, etc.: In the
event that an online instructor-led or direct training session is
cancelled at the last minute due to weather or some other factor, every
attempt will be made to reschedule the training.
For more information, see
our Cancellation and Refund Policy.
How will I know if a course has been canceled?
Individuals
who have registered and paid for the class will be notified of the cancellation
by email and direct contact. Notification of the cancellation – and
rescheduling information if applicable - will also be posted on the online
training calendar, which can be viewed at the CCR&R Training Participant’s
Portal.
Will
I receive a refund if CCR&R cancels a course for which I’m registered?
Based
on the original method of payment, individuals may select to transfer their
registration to another course, receive a credit that can be applied to a
future registration, or receive a refund applied to their credit or debit
card. If the registration fee was
originally paid by another party, such as an employer, the credit or refund
applies to their account.
If I have a training credit,
how do I apply it to a future registration?
If
a course for which you were registered is cancelled and you select to receive a
credit toward a future registration, you will be sent an email confirming the
credit for your records. CCR&R’s
training database will also maintain a record of the credit for you. The credit may be redeemed any time within
the next 12-month period. Credits cannot
be redeemed with online registration nor are they visible from your online
account. To use a credit, you must
register for a course by calling your regional CCR&R Training office.
How
will I receive clock hours for the CCR&R courses I register to take?
Once you successfully
complete the requirements for any CCR&R training course, you will receive
clock hours for the course. If you have
completed an online self-study course, your training record will be
automatically updated to show the clock hours you have earned. If you have completed a distance self-study,
online instructor-led or direct course, your instructor or CCR&R will
update your training record to include the clock hours you have earned.
What if I want to get CEUs or college credit for a course?
If the course offers CEUs,
you will need to apply for CEUs by clicking on the link provided in the course
information. Typically, you will be
linked to the NDSU Distance and Continuing Education and can expect to pay a
CEU fee of approximately $10.
College credits are available
for ND CCR&R CDA courses only. To
register for college-credit CDA courses, please visit the NDSU Distance and
Continuing Education department at http://www.ndsu.edu/DCE or call 701-231-8638.
Can
my licensor access my training records?
Through the CCR&R
Training Licensor’s Portal, licensors have access to view a list of the ND
CCR&R training a licensed child care provider has successfully
completed. Licensors do not have access
to any other information contained in a provider’s account. Note that you will continue to be responsible
for providing verifications of training records to your licensor as
requested.
Does CCR&R share or sell my information to any other organizations
or parties?
Information collected by ND
CCR&R is never sold or distributed for marketing or commercial
purposes. We may disclose specific
information upon governmental request, in response to a court order, when
required by law, or to protect our or others' rights, property, or safety.
How does CCR&R ensure that the information presented in its
training courses is current and supportive of best practices?
CCR&R professional development

well-connected with many of the quality initiatives underway across the
nation. CCR&R staff participates in
state, regional, and national workshops and projects to ensure that we stay as
