Making a commitment to a healthy lifestyle is more important now than ever. GoFar Childcare is a bold, new approach to directly addressing our children’s growing health crisis. You are invited to join our community in an innovative program designed to increase children’s health through reflection and learning.
What is GoFar Childcare?
GoFar Childcare is a bold new approach to address the growing health concerns surrounding obesity and inactivity of children in childcare (0-12yrs) in Cass and Clay counties. Data from the FM area shows one in four children are overweight or obese by age 6.
That’s why GoFar Childcare is supporting the First Lady’s launch of Let’s Move! Child Care – a nationwide call-to-action that empowers child care providers, like you, to make positive health changes in children, early on, that could last a lifetime. This innovative program is designed to increase children’s health by having early childhood professionals interact with information and tools that grow your knowledge about the importance of planning healthy meals and snacks, incorporating physical movement into daily activities, and providing opportunities for outdoor play.
The GoFar Childcare program will support your efforts by providing incentives for participating in the Let’s Move! Child Care campaign.
Who Can Participate?
The GoFar Childcare program is open to licensed childcare providers in Cass (ND) and Clay (MN) counties. Child Care Center staff are encouraged to participate in the GoFar program on an individual basis to address physical activity and nutrition within their classroom setting.
What Are The Requirements of Participation
To participate in this innovative program you will need to complete the following:
- Commit to upholding the Let’s Move! Child Care program goals.
- Submit pre and post height and weight (BMI) information for enrolled children to CCR&R.
- Determine a level of participation as outlined in the GoFar brochure.
- Register for the program by completing the registration form.
- Register as a participant on the Let’s Move! Child Care website.
- Interact with the tools and resources provided by the Let’s Move! Child Care campaign.
- Begin your journey instilling a healthier lifestyle in the children you care for.
GoFar participants will receive monthly emails highlighting helpful resources and materials.
What Is The Timeline for the Program?
The GoFar Childcare program launched in October of 2011. All program requirements must be completed and submitted to ND CCR&R by June 30, 2012 to qualify for incentives.
How Do I Become a Part of the GoFar Program?
Simply complete the brochure registration indicating your desired level of participation and send the information to Child Care Resource and Referral. You will receive notification of acceptance into the program along with next step details. Registrations will be accepted on a first come first serve basis until funds have been depleted. “Don’t delay! Make a commitment to a healthy lifestyle today!”
