Listening and Talking

A text and print rich environment are essential to language development. When setting up these areas there are a few details to remember:

Have pictures displayed at children’s eye level.
Have books that include different cultures, abilities, genders and that promote diversity.
Pictures should be realistic and child friendly.
Set up reading areas with books displayed in an inviting manner.
It is also a good idea to label shelves and everyday items with realistic pictures and the printed word.
