Listening and Talking
A text and print rich environment are essential to language development. When setting up these areas there are a few details to remember:
- Have pictures displayed at children’s eye level.
- Have books that include different cultures, abilities, genders and that promote diversity.
- Pictures should be realistic and child friendly.
- Set up reading areas with books displayed in an inviting manner.
- It is also a good idea to label shelves and everyday items with realistic pictures and the printed word.
