Flood Preparation & Response in Child Care

In the event of a flood, follow general emergency/disaster preparation and response recommendations and requirements for child care programs. You should also review and implement the following preparation and recovery steps that are unique to a flood emergency.

Take Protective Measures

If you must evaluate or drive through flood conditions:
• Avoid low roads, underpasses and other flood-prone areas.
• Do not drive around barricades
• Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars and can cause loss of control and
  possible stalling. A foot of water will float many vehicles.
• Two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles, including SUVs and pickups.
