Fire Prevention and Response

Follow the general emergency/disaster preparation and response recommendations and requirements for child care programs. You should also review and implement the following prevention, preparation and response steps that are unique to a fire emergency.

Take Protective Measures

Conduct Regular Fire Drills

A fire drill should not be a scary experience for children. Regular practice drills will help children learn how to respond appropriately and not hide under a bed or in a closet if a fire occurs.

Schedule monthly fire drills. Conduct these monthly drills at various times, such as nap time, meal time, play time etc. This will help children and staff learn fire escape routes from different parts of your facility.
