Child Care Provider with a Young Boy

North Dakota has one of the largest percentages of mothers of young children in the workforce, and one focus of Child Care Resource and Referral is to ensure that our children are in safe, healthy, nurturing environments with caregivers who understand and value the unique characteristics of early childhood. To achieve this, a variety of services are offered which support the varied needs of people who care for children.

Child Care Resource and Referral coordinates meaningful training opportunities including workshops, conferences and courses for people who care for children and who administer a child care business. CCR&R publishes a semi-annual Training Calendar which lists the upcoming topics, dates, times and locations for continuing education. Contact your local CCR&R to add your name to the mailing list.

A library of resources is maintained at each CCR&R office. The library includes books and videos to help you care for children and operate your business:

  • child development
  • guidance
  • cultural awareness
  • program management
  • social and emotional development
  • working with families
  • health and safety
  • creativity and activity ideas
  • working with children with special needs

CCR&R welcomes new child care providers to this rewarding career, and is available to support new providers through the start-up process and beyond. Whether you are operating a family or group child care business, a child care center, a before and after school program, or preschool or drop-in care, trained staff can come visit you and bring helpful information and resources. CCR&R's referral service will assist you in filling openings with families that match your schedule.

Part of the role of a child care resource and referral program is collecting and disseminating data about the child care industry. CCR&R maintains a database of all licensed child care programs, as well as information about families needing child care. This data can help providers understand the child care market in their city or community. Contact CCR&R for current information about average rates, vacancies or common business practices.
