Incorporated centers, whether non-profit or for profit, will have a Board of Directors to act in a governance capacity. The make-up of the board is critical to the guidance and governance of the center so careful thought should be taken when selecting board members. Responsibilities of the board members should be carefully written out and explained in detail when potential members are approached. Articles of Incorporation, bylaws, audits, budgets, resolutions, policies and problems are just a few of the items to typically come before a board.

Information on boards can be found at various websites, such as www.managementhelp.org or for some child care center specific information, your local CCR&R lending library has the book “The Child Care Center Management Guide” by Clare Cherry.
